How to improve hotel guest satisfaction

25 / 04 / 2025

When you run a hotel, guest satisfaction is essential. It can directly impact hotel reviews, customer loyalty and repeat bookings, which is why hotels are always looking for new ways to ensure guests enjoy their stay and leave with positive feelings. With so much competition, it’s essential that hoteliers offer unique experiences and personalised services to stand out and gain a competitive advantage.

In this article, we explore ways hotels can enhance their guest experience to ensure every guest leaves feeling satisfied with their stay. We’ll take a look at everything from the booking process to the hotel’s facilities and the check-in and check-out processes.

Make it easy to book

Hotel guests today want to be able to book a room at ease – in fact, at the touch of a button when possible. Gone are the days of ringing a hotel to check their availability and make a booking. Guests want to be able to book online, at a time that’s convenient for them.

With this in mind, hotels should ensure that they integrate a booking engine into their website and may even want to consider being listed on sites such as Booking.com to make it even easier to take bookings.

Understand guest preferences

Reviews and surveys are a great way to understand what your guests want. If you’re seeing common themes appear in your reviews, such as customers wanting more luxurious toiletries or the check-in process taking a long time, you can examine these areas and make improvements. Asking guests to complete a short survey about their stay once they’ve departed can also help you identify trends in what they want.

Enhance your facilities

If your hotel is beginning to look tired, consider refurbishing its rooms and communal areas. The outside of the hotel and reception areas are the first things guests see when they arrive, so ensure they make a great first impression. Also, think about the little extra touches you can add to these areas to help improve the experience. This might include complimentary refreshments and newspapers or comfortable seating areas to relax or work.

Give the guests something extra

When guests stay in a hotel, they want to feel looked after and a little spoiled. Consider the small details you can incorporate into their stay to make them feel truly special. This might be a little snack basket, a bottle of wine or robes and slippers so they can relax in comfort. While simple to implement, this one can have a big impact on guest satisfaction and lead to positive reviews.

Update your in-room technology

In today’s world, guests expect the latest gadgets and technology everywhere we go. From lightning-fast Wi-Fi to charging ports and streaming platforms built into the TVs. You might also look at integrating smart lighting or temperature controls to help them feel more comfortable during their stay. Some hotels even offer services through their TV systems, such as ordering room service or making housekeeping requests.

WHAT CLIENTS SAY?

I can highly recommend Denis and his team if you are looking for a reliable, professional and excellent contractor to deliver on time and what you require. They recently completed a large refurbishment of rooms, studios and common areas (Kitchens) at the property I work at and this was delivered on time and to an excellent finish and at the same time providing a very good level of support once completed, any issues or snagging completed quickly as and when required

Milkris Interiors carried out our £2 million refurbishment to our hotel the Holiday Inn Express London Stratford which was completed early 2019. Denis and his team were thoroughly professional throughout the works. As the hotel remained open they were duly sensitive to the guests needs and completed the job with minimal disturbance. They worked speedily and efficiently completing the works on time even though we had a challenging timetable and needed to make amendments during the works. Denis was always available to discuss progress and very easy to work with. His team are highly professional and hard working. I would definitely recommend Milkris Interiors to my colleagues.
